For those of you new to Free Money Finance, I post on The Bible and Money every Sunday. Here's why.
The following is an excerpt from Building Your Financial Fortress in 52 Days: The Lessons of Nehemiah. This post is from Day 34.
The enemy is within, the permanent resident in our hearts that is the DNA for all financial failure. It lies dormant until it is awakened by the stimulation of greed. Not many would use the word greed to describe their financial actions. Words like savvy investments, moderate risk, growth positions, and even helping people sound much more commendable.
But in Nehemiah?s time, the day of full disclosure came screeching to a literal stop. The people could be attacked at any moment. They were threatened by an unknown enemy that lurked in the night; they were in danger and worked constantly to build up the exposed and vulnerable places behind their homes, and now, after about a month of this, the bills were due. The real world. You know, the Monday after the sermon that inspired you, the reality of your beliefs is put to the test.
Almost a thousand years after Nehemiah, men, women, children, and entire families in Ghana would be corralled like cattle, a thousand at a time. They were forced by merchants of greed to pass through a narrow doorway, never to return. Three million Africans were violently abducted?families experiencing each other?s love, working and developing their skills together, living their lives. And then the great holocaust of the 1600?s and 1700?s occurred and they were herded through a single doorway that now reads: ?Door of No Return.? Not only in Ghana, but capturing countless souls from other abduction ports as well.
These profiteers sold human beings as machines. Human trafficking at its most elaborate and most organized. Opportunists from all corners of the globe cashed in on the financial gain. Many who called themselves ?Christians.?
How could a Christian force 1000 Africans into a hull of a ship and sell or buy other humans without considering Paul?s words in a letter he wrote to the church in Philippi, ?Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.?
Are Christians immune to sin? No, unfortunately. Perhaps the most popular, yet most socially acceptable, sin in most Christian circles is greed. Greed is not good, but it ain?t bad, so we harbor it in our hearts. This is what we have all heard: ?We have to make a living.?
?I am not a greedy person; I just like nice things.?
?To be a Christ-kid I will name it and claim it and live with great abundance.?
However, since the beginning of recorded history, the desire for money has an hallucinogenic effect on us and, as a result, has turned countless humans from the faith and pierced them with many a grief.
May the atrocities of the past never be forgotten, and, more importantly, may they never be repeated. This can only take place by being true followers of Christ. Education about slavery will remind us of our heinous crimes against humanity, but will not prevent new generations from similar sins.
The only remedy is to truly follow Christ and His example. He showed us the most basic way to live when He said, ?Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.? There is a debt to pay to those who have been wronged?a debt that should never be paid off, and payments should be made daily. It is the debt to love one another more than ourselves. Let?s start paying this enormous and very delinquent debt.
Nehemiah?s people thought they were surviving. They did what they had to do in their own understanding of finance. This meant, ?If I have something you need you can borrow it with interest. I need to survive too.? This practice takes time-tested business principles and merges them into everyday, family life. The problem is that it leaves no room for faith and a God that honors such faith.
Nehemiah?s people knew all too well about being treated as dollar-store items, and traded like baseball cards. Years earlier they were pardoned, bought back, and liberated from the tyranny of slavery.
But what happened next is a scheme only perfected by the evil one. Not one of Nehemiah?s people would have condoned slavery when they were oppressed, but when faced with the opportunity to lend to their own brothers, and perhaps to make a meager profit, they opened the door to great opportunity for a familiar pain. After a short while the have-nots were in debt to the haves, and falling deeper into bondage.
It is your turn. With eyes wide open to where you are or where you are going, it is time to stop the train that is on the wrong track or has already derailed, and do it God?s way financially. You do not have to be enslaved to the bondage of debt, greed, or any other lesser gods.
What to do next? Come back next week...

Pain management NYC comes into two ways and these include acute and chronic types. When one experiences a sharp and unexpected feeling in the body that makes them uncomfortable, then they are dealing with the acute one. If discomfort is long, dull and persistent and does not go away no matter what treatment one takes, then they are dealing with the chronic type.
Causes of these types of discomfort can range from labor, child birth, accidents and even having gone through surgery. Either way, when one has the ailment, then they are not able to function well which means normal day to day activities are interfered with.
The consequences of having this ailment includes soreness, limited mobility and decreased need to eat. When a person has these effects in their life, then they are not able to do things that are expected of them and may even undergo stress or even have zero interest in going to work.
There are plenty of ways of treating this condition and this is based on the severity and seriousness of the ailment. Over the counter medicines are effective in treating inflammation and decrease discomfort. They should be taken with care because they cause drowsiness and cannot be taken if one intends to operate any machinery.
Sometimes, people are okay physically but emotionally, they are suffering and are not voicing out what their problems are. It is important to deal with the sensation because one may find it hard to function well if they don?t do anything about it. Visualizing the ailment leaving the body is a great way to clear it out.
Pain management NYC is a necessary and important aspect of a physician?s way of life and they devote a lot of time and money in doing research so as to help people who experience it to have normal lives. pain management nyc

Ask people what they do to stay productive and you?ll get a variety of answers, because what works for some doesn?t work for others. In other words, with all due respect to the folks who produce the Franklin Planner, it?s not for everybody. That said, if you?re the type who likes being organized, the Franklin Planner may be something you?d love.
Personally, I?m a strong advocate of Stephen Covey?s recommendation for ?weekly planning and daily adapting.? Still, beyond those basics, many other productivity techniques exist. Recently I decided to contact some folks whom I believe to be productive and ask what they did to maximize their productivity. What follows are some of their responses. See if any of these appeal to you.
Minimizing Distractions
Several people stated they get more done if they can minimize workplace distractions. A woman told me she has learned to keep the door to her office closed ?to keep the ?drive-bys? at bay,? and also to say ?I?m busy right now, when can I get back to you?? if she?s in the middle of something and people invite themselves in.
One man said he gets more done if he finds a place to work that?s far away from his cubicle, usually in a different department altogether. He says this technique keeps him away from the never-ending chit-chat and office politics that ?hum non-stop in the cubicle farm area? and eat up valuable time.
Another woman citing the same distractions actually asked for and received permission to do her job remotely, even though she lived just a few miles from work.
This technique for better productivity is similar to what I?ve written about before, the Results Only Work Environment (ROWE). The idea behind ROWE is a focus on performance, not presence. As long as employees are producing the results we expect of them, what does it matter where they are when their work gets done? For more information on this, visit gorowe.com.)
Old-Fashioned Paper & Pen
One woman emphasized that she stayed productive by keeping her daily plan in front of her all day long. She hand writes her priorities into a journal and keeps that journal open on her desk to remind her of what she needs to get done. She says it might be old-fashioned, but she gets a lot of satisfaction by crossing things off, and that each time she does that she gets encouraged to get the next item done so she can cross that off, too.
Micro-Planning
Because moving throughout a building can eat up precious time and reduce productivity, one woman says she always checks her day?s ?to-do? list before leaving her desk to go someplace else in the building. ?I want to see if I can combine multiple tasks into that one trip,? she says.
Managing E-mail
One man who deals with scores of people each day maintains that e-mail is a communications tool and not a filing system. To remain productive, he designates several times a day as ?e-mail time? during which he focuses only on e-mail. For something that can?t get addressed right away, he drags it to his task list. He also keeps all the e-mail notification bells turned off at all times.
Productivity Periods
Some people are more productive in the morning, others more in the afternoon. One man who knows he?s a morning person never schedules any meetings in the morning, because that?s when he gets his ?work? done. It?s his standing policy to schedule meetings only in the afternoon.
Granted, some people don?t have the luxury of making that an absolute rule, but if you know your most productive time, you can try to manage your schedule to maximize your productivity. One woman who knows she?s more productive in the afternoon always blocks out at least one hour per day after lunch when she neither takes any phone calls nor schedules any meetings.
Delegate
If you supervise others or manage a team, pay close attention to what you?re doing that could be delegated. Several people mentioned that they are much more productive when they?re delegating effectively. By the way, good delegation often requires planning (read: time), so it can seem counterintuitive that it?s a time-saver. But delegation planning is something that can be done during planning time, not during the golden productivity hours.
Balance
Finally, several people mentioned that getting their minds off work was very good for their productivity. One woman said that a 30-60 minute lunch away from the office worked wonders to keep her fresh in the afternoon. Another person said he always leaves work at work; that his evenings are always devoted to spending time with his family.
No doubt there are many more tips to boost one?s productivity, but if any of these sound appealing, try them and see how they work for you.

See Authors Posts (8) ? February 21, 2012Is DJing a performing art? ?If it were considered a performing art by our clients ? that is, if DJs were considered artists ? our profession could be elevated to a point where we could overcome stigmas of DJs being no more than glorified serving staff or musical bartenders (no disrespect to serving staff or, particularly, bartenders, without whom I?m sure I could not live). Then could corresponding prices be far behind?
When I think of ?entertainment?, I think of performances in disciplines that would most likely be considered performing arts. Things like theatre, dance or music performance. I?m a singer in a band?as well as a DJ. I consider a band performance a performing art. A band is actually ?performing? music live with skills we have worked a lifetime to develop ? our ?art?. Artists who have practiced for hours each day and spent years perfecting musical talent and skill generally don?t think twice about what to charge a client for their time and talent. But DJs do.
At Jerry Bruno Productions, I work full time booking all of the bands and DJs we represent. This gives me a unique perspective from both the artist viewpoint and the agent?s. There seems to be an almost universal expectation among clients booking live bands to pay premium rates. This expectation goes beyond the simple math of ?more musicians equals more money?. There seems to be an inherent respect for a musician?s skill that manifests itself in an expectation to pay more. That?s not to say that everyone who wants to book a band has a bottomless wallet. They don?t and band clients present many of the same budget-related challenges that we deal with with clients looking for DJs. But what?s not the same is the almost automatic price objection from DJ clients. I tend to spend a lot more time defending, explaining and justifying DJ prices than band prices. Clients consider musicians artists.
Price haggling is rare if it exists at all among patrons of the arts. Concert tickets are what they are. Theatre fans will pay $100 a ticket or more to see a Broadway show. What about DJs? Wouldn?t it be nice to demand the same respect ? and proportional price. As a DJ, do you consider yourself an artist? If so, (and I believe you should), how can you translate that to your clients?
A brief Google search for the definition of ?Performing Arts? yielded this definition:
?Forms of creative activity that are performed in front of an audience, such as drama, music, and dance.?
OK. ?Creative activity?. Preparing, programming and presenting music is certainly creative activity. Add to that other creative DJ skills of acting, dancing, narrating and writing just to name a few and DJing fits that criteria. And all of those skills should definitely be rehearsed (if you have any level of professionalism) and are certainly ?performed in front of an audience?. Many DJs have spent a lifetime immersed in popular music. Through study and practice, they have exceptional knowledge and skill that should be respected (and paid for) every bit as much as that of a ballerina or an orchestra conductor.
Skeptics might point out that a DJ is not actually creating something original. I would argue that neither is a revival of a stage musical created long ago by writers that often have nothing to do with the current production. The sculptor who creates a ?work of art? out of mechanical parts or even garbage is using material she didn?t create. But she is interpreting that material in her own way to make something new. DJs can do the same thing.
There are even some DJs who seem to be held in higher regard as actual performers. High profile turntablists or controllerists, whose gear seems to be considered musical instruments are viewed as artists on a much different level than professional mobile DJs. If the glass is half full, these high profile, DJs/Producers will raise awareness of the profession in general as a true art.
All of us DJs know our profession has a sort of an identity crisis. Just spend a few minutes in any DJ forum and try to navigate through the sea of insecurity disguised as ?my speakers are bigger than yours? or threads regarding bottom feeders. One cure for this crisis is to realize that we are artists. We have developed and honed skills that can enlighten, challenge and, of course, entertain an audience. DJs can elevate an audience experience to a level that can create memories for a lifetime.
What could be more artistic than that?

When I very first learned about the thought of unschooling, I agreed with much of it in principle. I understood that my children realized an awful lot of stuff with no help from me. Infants learn to crawl, toddlers learn how to wander and toilet train and discuss. They are things you cannot truly educate a child how to do. I also knew the amount kids loved to understand, especially if they aren?t hamstrung from fear of doing. They discover for the enjoyment of it also to fulfill their own curiosity and craving to know the planet.
At the exact same time, I anxious that by unschooling I had been a lazy mother or father. Is always that true? Very first, I am going to define what unschooling is.
Hmm. That is hard, partly because unschooling appears so diverse for each loved ones! There are ?radical? unschoolers who reject workbooks and curriculum and ?doing school?, you will find unschoolers that do some curriculum in the versatile fashion, and all things in concerning. Some unschooling families feel Tv and video gaming are okay, others reject them entirely. And again, there is certainly anything amongst.
What unschoolers share is their believe in of children.

The Supreme Court, which has shifted to the right, may use the Texas case to overturn the 2003 decision that achieving classroom diversity could justify the use of race-based affirmative action.
The US Supreme Court?s decision on Tuesday to examine the race-based admissions plan at the University of Texas raises the possibility it may rule in a way that dramatically reduces the use of affirmative action plans at public colleges and universities across the country.
Skip to next paragraphAt issue in the Texas case is whether that?s school?s use of affirmative action to supplement minority enrollment at the state?s flagship university violates the equal protection rights of nonminority students competing for the same places in the freshman class.
University officials relied on a Supreme Court decision in a 2003 case, Grutter v. Bollinger, to support its use of race in an attempt to achieve a critical mass of racial and ethnic diversity in every class taught at UT.
Critics say the effort is an abuse of the diversity rationale approved by the Supreme Court in 2003. Supporters say it is necessary to fulfill the university?s educational mission of providing a diverse learning environment.
Legal analysts said the court may use the Texas case to revisit ? and perhaps overturn ? the 2003 decision in which the majority justices established for the first time that classroom diversity could provide a compelling interest justifying the use of race-based affirmative action.
That decision in Grutter v. Bollinger involved an admissions program at the University of Michigan Law School. The justices voted 5 to 4 to uphold the race-based program.
The critical swing vote was cast by then-Justice Sandra Day O?Connor, who wrote in her decision that such race-based programs should be phased out as unnecessary within 25 years. ?
Since then, Justice O?Connor has been replaced on the high court by Justice Samuel Alito, who is far less open to race-based admissions plans than was O?Connor.
In addition to this rightward shift at the court, Justice Elena Kagan, an affirmative action supporter, is recusing herself from consideration of the case. Justice Kagan worked on the Texas case as the Obama administration?s solicitor general before joining the high court.
?The last time the court considered affirmative action in higher education was the 2003? Grutter case, says Brian Fitzpatrick, a professor at Vanderbilt Law School. ?It is possible the court could use this case to overturn Grutter?s permitting universities to use affirmative action for diversity purposes.?
But he notes that it is not the only potential outcome. ?It is also possible the court will narrowly focus on the unique circumstances of the University of Texas,? he says.
For example, if the court was troubled by the university?s broad use of race to attempt to achieve diversity in every classroom at the university, the justices could strike down that portion of the university?s plan as being outside the guidance offered by the high court in the 2003 Grutter decision.
More problematic from the perspective of affirmative action supporters is the possibility that the justices use the Texas case to completely reexamine the diversity rationale that was narrowly approved in 2003.
?The court is right to take the case, because the justices must keep an eye on what schools are doing,? says Roger Clegg, president of the Center for Equal Opportunity and a long-time critic of race-based admissions programs.

Serial entrepreneur and Financial Times columnist Mike Southon says: ?Many companies fail because they get their sales wrong ? probably more that for any other reason, including finance Companies with excellent products, able people and good-looking marketing plans: none of these matter if real live customers are not persuaded to write out real live cheques.?
He continues: ?Business owners can all too often be haunted by the myths that prevent people from doing sales excellently ? that sales is somehow flashy and dishonest. It is time these myths are replaced with the truth, that in the modern business, everybody sells. The sales role stretches across the entire team, from technical people to the ?sales cornerstone? at the heart of the operation.?
Mike Southon, who has thirty year?s experience of sales across a range of business environments, co-founded his own business in 1984 and was responsible for growing the company to 150 people before selling it to what is now Cap Gemini Ernst & Young. Since then he has been in charge of sales in seventeen start-up ventures.
In 2002, Mike Southon and Chris West (Innovation and Intrapreneurship Advisor; and Marketing practitioner) collaborated to produce the best-selling book ?The Beermat Entrepreneur?, an advisory guide for entrepreneurs and start-ups based on their ?Beermat? methodology for entrepreneurs which has received rave reviews:
?In professional partnerships we like to think we don?t have to sell. This is a dangerous illusion ? luckily Mike Southon and Chris West are here to show us how and why it needn?t be hell. Inspiring and motivational? says John Beevor, BPE Solicitors.
The Beermat Entrepreneurs have since rolled their methodology to thousands of small business founders, corporate managers and business students across the UK, France and America. Chris West says: ?Marketing is the driving force of every small business, but many entrepreneurs are unsure how best to go about it. You don?t need a huge marketing budget to get results, there is a plethora of inexpensive but ingenious ?tricks of the trade? that are guaranteed to pay dividends.?
Chris adds: The afternoon session of the ?Sales and Marketing Workshop? is designed to demystify this essential area of business enterprise, telling you everything you need to know about researching and identifying customers, creating an impressive marketing strategy, building marketing campaigns, and increasing consumer awareness and ? therefore ? sales. We?ll be providing the delegates with crucial insights into online resources and the UK media.?
The ?Sales and Marketing? Workshop on 22nd April 2010 is for business owners and managers both with and without experience of sales and marketing, who want to make more money, become a better marketeer, and who are not afraid to challenge their current strategies. Lively and interactive, this workshop will leave you with ideas and tools you can use immediately to move your sales and marketing processes up a gear.

So you?ve got a new restaurant ? are you prepared for a safety or security crisis? Preparing for a crisis involves a lot more than getting a good liability insurance policy.
Restaurant Expert Witness, Restaurant Consultant, and CEO, Howard Cannon believes that the restaurant industry needs to pay closer attention to safety and security, stating, ?Government agencies recommend monthly safety meetings with staff and management, but very few follow that advice. Too often, there is poor training and lack of focus on safety and security for customers or the restaurant staff; and, there is little or no commitment to following up on the training that does exist.?
Cannon says, ?In any industry, there are going to be events that may not be avoided. However, to reduce risks, restaurant management and employees should be trained in security and safety measures. Training typically revolves around security discussions, review of policies and procedures that have been put in place to minimize risk, and a combination of follow-up and monitoring to ensure compliance. He adds, ?Having cameras in good locations, appropriate locks, and a well-lit facility can reduce the likelihood of problems.?
Mr. Cannon believes that those in the restaurant industry need to focus on managing their risks whenever possible, stating, ??What-if? situations are supposed to be thought out ahead of time. Having a ready response for virtually every conceivable situation helps enormously . . . What if your staff didn?t lock the back door after dark? What if only one employee closed out the restaurant and left at 11 pm with the bank deposit? . . . You can easily become ?sitting ducks? ripe for accidents, or worse.?
The restaurant industry faces another profound security risk, and that is the risk from within. Mr. Cannon encourages restaurant owners to protect their assets, stating, ?It?s a shocking fact, but 44% of restaurant employees steal from the establishment and 80% of theft is from management personnel. The industry has historically been buried with alcohol and drug abuse. Getting rid of that liability will reduce the likelihood of bigger problems.? Cameras can be a good preventative measure for this problem. They also act as a deterrent to would-be embezzlers and to would-be criminals from the outside. Additionally, when there are infractions, they help establish proof for criminal investigations, prosecutions, and other legal matters. Do restaurant customers like cameras though? Cannon believes that most of them do. ?It depends on the people, but most customers will feel safer in establishments with cameras and a security system,? he says. ?If something does happen, they have the confidence that the incident will be recorded and that record will protect them. People are looking for that kind of protection these days.
Howard Cannon is a highly recognized restaurant expert witness, consultant, analyst, and speaker. He is the author of The Complete Idiot?s Guide to Starting a Restaurant? ? found in 76 countries around the globe. Mr. Cannon is the CEO of Restaurant Consultants of America and Restaurant Expert Witness, and can be reached at 800-300-5764 or via the web at RestaurantConsultantsOfAmerica.com or RestaurantExpertWitness.com.

Shopping for a Menifee or Wildomar house in a buyers marketplace could possibly be the perfect time to get the home you dream about. There is many competition for homebuyers as well as the selection of houses is fantastic. With such a wide selection of listings, the first and biggest step is to not consider homes until you have thoroughly investigate the place aspect. As they say, the three most significant valuations in actual estate are: place, place, place. In a buyers marketplace that is pretty important to keep in mind. So you should always begin the Temecula Valley home look in the right way or youll receive distracted.
The logic for this really is pretty understandable. In todays marketplace the house choices in Temecula, Murrieta, Menifee, Wildomar as well as the surrounding cities is almost unlimited. There are many vendors wanting and you cant focus on merely the listings. If you decide to do this, you will receive lost in the details and not have the helicopter view important. You need to step back and slim items by hunting at different regions, commutes, schools, and quality of life first. If you decide to went into a donut shop and saw thousands of donuts to choose from, it will be incredibly hard to decide. But should you narrowed it right down to a certain dough type, then you have a big focus and now may try each 1 accessible until you find the best option.
For instance, some recent shoppers examined the Temecula communities of Harveston, Paseo Del Sol, RedHawk, Paloma Del Sol, and Vintage Hills. They additionally visited the south Murrieta communities of Bear Creek, West Murrieta, Montserrat, and Greer Ranch. They then examined school quality, home rate, neighborhood facilities and length of commute. These were the main aspects and in that concern.
Unlike different places in Southern Ca, houses throughout the Temecula Valley tend to be new and are draw in review since the construction rush throughout 2000 to 2006. The same builders that built homes in south Temecula additionally built communities in east and south Murrieta or Temecula. The large differential is quality of community.
My shoppers tested these communities and decided that Morgan Hill in south Temecula was the best fit. It had excellent ranked schools in strolling distance, community parks and facilities, low duty rates of one.25%, as well as the commute was acceptable. Once that was decided you worked at narrowing right down to the houses that ideal fit their objectives.
In all, there were over 20 houses examine against each different. My clients but began hunting and eventually narrowed that list right down to 4-6 houses of the identical model match of house. We then were able to cut the price and compare the houses directly against each different. The end outcome was my shoppers got a wonderful deal on a home because they shopped the right way in a buyers marketplace.
The important aspect here is to ensure you may be evualuating the Temecula Real Estate marketplace properly to increase it to the objectives and searching the marketplace the right way. Dont purchase just the ideal house, find a very good home in the best community for the objectives. Making the right purchase can supply you a much better enjoyment of your home and community and it can safeguard the investment also. I always tell my customers that they ARE the actual land marketplace nowadays and tomorrow. What they highly value can also be appreciated to different buyers and therefore their smart choice can appreciate more in up markets and keep its lengthy term valuation throughout a down marketplace.
