President Obama will announce a revamped contraception-coverage policy today that shifts the responsibility to cover free birth control to insurers rather than employers, the WSJ reports . The move will let a broader group of religious employers ? hospitals, charities and universities, not just churches ? opt out of the mandate to cover contraception for their employees with no co-pays or deductibles. Contraception was deemed an essential preventive service that, under the health-care overhaul law, must be covered without cost-sharing. But that raised the ire of religious leaders, who called the policy an assault on religious liberty. The rejiggered policy ?will allow religious employers to opt out of the coverage mandate,? the WSJ reports. ?If they do so, the employer?s insurance company will be required to offer contraception for free in a separate arrangement with workers who want it.?
